About the Onkyo TX-RZ800

The evolution of home theater
Think you know all the things a home theater receiver can do? You might be in for a surprise. The Onkyo TX-RZ800 has more than a few tricks up its sleeve, including full support for 4K Ultra HD video and the latest multi-dimensional surround sound formats. THX Select2 Plus certification ensures spot-on reproduction of movie soundtracks for a truly theater-like experience in your living room. A whole host of wireless streaming options gives you quick access to a huge variety of music, and flexible amp configurations let you set up your system exactly how you want it, so you can even branch out into other rooms. A Wi-Fi remote app turns your phone or tablet into a convenient remote to control everything.
Take your home theater above and beyond with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
A technology that just made its debut in home theater receivers last year, Dolby Atmos creates the most lifelike, captivating surround sound of any audio format we've heard to date. If you're watching a plane take off onscreen, your ears will follow it down the runway along with your eyes, and as it flies overhead you might swear your hair is blowing back as it roars directly above you. The TX-RZ800 supports a 5.1.2 Atmos setup. If you're ready to explore this new dimension in home theater sound, you'll just need to add a pair of in-ceiling speakers to your five-channel system, or pick up a pair of Atmos enabled upward-firing speakers to project sound off your ceiling and create the height effects that make an Atmos system so riveting.
Onkyo will release a firmware update in the summer of 2016 that will give this receiver DTS:X surround sound, an upcoming format which will use object-based processing similar to Dolby Atmos and overhead speakers for immersive home theater.
Endless streaming options
The TX-RZ800's built-in Wi-Fi lets you access the music you have stored on your networked computer, plus you can take advantage of free Internet radio and other subscription-based Internet radio services like Spotify, Pandora, and SiriusXM Internet radio. All of these options can be controlled with the Onkyo Remote app on your phone. Bluetooth lets you stream any music you listen to on your phone or tablet directly to the receiver for playback through your home speakers, and Apple AirPlay lets you send music wirelessly from a compatible Apple device or from any computer with iTunes.
Great sound is key
Audio performance is at the heart of the TX-RZ800's design. Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier technology gives you smooth sound with minimal distortion for thrilling movie sound effects. Phase-matching Bass Boost lets you enjoy deep, thunderous low frequency effects while vocals and dialogue remain clear. Music aficionados will appreciate decoding for high-resolution DSD and FLAC files, along with other high-res formats. Onkyo's Music Optimizer helps improve the sound of compressed audio files and Bluetooth streams so you can hear your music the way it was meant to be heard. A premium 32-bit/384kHz digital-to-analog converter uses an exclusive low-distortion filtering technology to deliver crystal-clear reproduction of music and TV and movie soundtracks.
Enjoy music and video in multiple rooms
Ever wish you had a dedicated music listening room? It isn't hard to set one up with the TX-RZ800's multi-zone audio capabilities. Powered Zone 2 outputs let you connect a pair of speakers for stereo sound in another room, so you can still enjoy 5.2-channel surround sound in your living room. You can also connect a stereo receiver through line-level Zone 2 and Zone 3 connections and use the 'RZ800 as a preamp. Whole House Mode lets you play the same song in all zones, or you can listen to a different song in each room. A second HDMI out lets you watch video from two separate sources in your living room and a second room. Use the Onkyo Remote app to control playback in different zones from anywhere in the house.
