Exceptional antique Imperial Russian gold and jade brooch, Moscow, circa 1890–1896.

A particularly beautiful late 19th century Russian piece, set with a substantial domed green jade cabochon in a wonderfully simple gold mount.

The historical hallmarks make this brooch especially interesting. It bears the old Russian 56 zolotnik gold standard, equivalent to approximately 14ct / 583 gold, together with the assay mark associated with Lev Fedorovich Oleks, Moscow assay master active during 1890–1896.

This allows the brooch to be placed within a remarkably narrow period in the final years of 19th century Imperial Russia.

The gold has also been professionally acid tested as 14ct.
