Musgrave Group is partner to entrepreneurial retailers in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain and Spain. Collectively the group partners over 3,500 stores through trading divisions across four territories. Together with retailers we employ over 60,000 people. In 2012 Musgrave retail brands – SuperValu, Centra, Budgens, Londis, Dialprix, Daybreak, Mace, Marketplace, and Dialsur had annual sales of €7 billion. The Group is a family owned business established in Cork in 1876. Today it is a multinational business and one of Ireland’s most successful companies and the biggest private sector employer. Musgrave’s business is about supporting local businesses in the heart of communities. This is because almost all of the stores associated with our brands are owned by independent retailers. The success of our business model is directly aligned to the success of such local stores. And the success of these stores is directly linked to the prosperity of the communities in which they operate and the willingness of such communities to invest in local goods and services. These retailers are close to the communities they serve, listen to their customers and strive to deliver a superior range of quality and value through on-going innovation and superior customer service. Musgrave partners with these retailers to supply the product sourcing, marketing, brand development skills as well as the logistical and financial expertise that enable these local businesses to compete head-to-head with the international supermarket chains. In the Republic of Ireland, Musgrave partners with over 900 SuperValu, Centra and Daybreak retailers. Musgrave’s commitment to local sourcing helps support nearly 20,000 jobs across 1,000 Irish supplier companies and contributes over €3 billion to the Irish economy. In 2011 SuperValu alone bought €500 million of Irish fresh food, of which meat and poultry accounted for €183 million, fruit and vegetables accounted for €156 million and dairy products €161 million. In 2011, SuperValu, Centra and Daybreak retailers spent almost €122 million on products sourced from suppliers within their local communities. Musgrave also operates Marketplace in ROI which offers a convenient one stop solution to meet the needs of today’s independent retailers and foodservice professionals. In Northern Ireland Musgrave partners with 81 Centra and 37 SuperValu retailers. The business also operates a Cash and Carry and foodservice business in Northern Ireland. In Great Britain, Musgrave partners Budgens and Londis retailers. In 2000 Musgrave acquired the Budgens supermarket chain. In 2003 Musgrave acquired the Londis franchise for Great Britain. There are currently 188 Budgens and 1,980 Londis stores throughout Great Britain. Musgrave operates in Spain through its Dialsur division which partners 16 SuperValu Supermarkets in south east Spain and 66 Dialprix stores as well as Dialsur Cash and Carry outlets.
