The Health Store
Location: Dublin
Company History and Milestones of Growth
The business origins go back to 1982 when Roger White (founder) returned from his travels around the world determined to start his own business. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs it was the obvious choice.
From his travels he had developed a keen interest in alternative remedies and supplements and had become a vegetarian somewhere in India. The natural progression was to put his passions into reality and the first Health Food Store opened in Swords in 1982.
Starting off slowly and working long hours he gradually built up a select customer base in a time when 'health foods' were considered very alternative. His second store opened in Bray 4 years later, followed by Tallaght and Blanchardstown. When it came to opening his 5th store, he managed to fit in running the Dublin City Marathon the morning before the store opened in Stillorgan.
Today times have changed dramatically. There are now 10 stores in the group, 7 in Dublin, 2 in Wicklow and 1 in Kilkenny. His wife, Susan, joined him in the company in 2001 taking over responsibility for the office side of the business.
From the outset there was the drive to provide a premium customer service and to ensure an extensive product range to our customers. The Health Store stocks over 6,000 products, including many of the respected brands in the industry. The Health Store has worked very hard to become one of the leading innovators in the health food sector in Ireland. We have developed a strong reputation for providing the leading product ranges and are particularly proud of the Dundrum store which is considered by most of our suppliers as the 'flagship' store for their product portfolios in Ireland.
The Health Store employs a full time senior product advisor and trainer, Derek McCann, who is their walking encyclopaedia on all the products and their uses.
The Company has developed a unique approach to health store retailing and puts considerable investment into recruitment and selection as well as continuous training programs for all staff members. All our product advisors are highly trained and passionate about the ethos of the company and the products we sell.
