Marvel UK Silver Age Comic Fantastic #38 1967 The X-Men Power Comic & inked by Werner Roth & Jack Kirby. Edited by Alf Wallace &
Stan Lee
Unus and the Blob, at the bidding of Lucifer, rob a bank disguised as X-Men. Cyclops attempts to stop them but is implicated in the crime, giving credence to the lie that the X-Men have turned criminal. Professor X mentally locates Lucifer. Lucifer fires an energy cannon into the sky which will track the Professor's thought waves and, presumably, do him harm!; Iron Man is a prisoner of the Mandarin, held fast to a giant wheel by concentrated titanium bonds, Mandarin proceeds to relate his origin. The Mandarin then declares his intentions to conquer the world and to "spin" Iron Man to death. The Mandarin leaves, not realizing that the spinning wheel is recharging Iron Man's armor, like a bicycle wheel recharges a small generator. Iron Man then thwarts Mandarin's world-domination plan by disrupting a Chinese missile launch and then redirecting the missile back to China. They fight until the Chinese turn up, branding Mandarin a traitor. Mandarin flees.; Thor battles the Cobra and Mr. Hyde for the life of Jane Foster. Balder delivers a message to Hardol the Healer requesting a special medicine for the injured Jane. Thor defeats the Cobra and Hyde. Balder finds Hardol, obtains the medicine and sends it to Thor in the nick of time. Jane will live!; Johnny busts some hardened, violent criminals out of prison. He takes them to Mr. Opposite who mistakenly believes he is being attacked. He applies his "opposite" power, not realizing that the men are villains. They immediately become model citizens and attempt a citizen's arrest. Curly "King" Kalo delivers a left hook which renders Mr. Opposite unconscious. The mind-controlled populace regains its free-will. Johnny explains to some soldiers how his plan worked and instructs them to make amends for their rioting (last issue) by arresting Curly and his gang. Mr. Opposite's crime spree is over!
