This is a Commemorative Medal issued to celebrate the royal visit of King George IV to Ireland in August 1821.
​This was a significant historical event, as it was the first visit by a reigning British monarch to Ireland in over a century (since William III) that wasn't for the purpose of leading an army.
​Key Features & Design
​Obverse (The "Heads" side): * Image: A portrait of King George IV facing left.
​Inscription: "GEORGE IV ASCENDED THE BRITISH THRONE JAN: 29. 1820." This marks his official accession date following the death of his father, George III.
​Reverse (The "Tails" side): * Central Image: A crowned Irish Harp, flanked by the floral symbols of the United Kingdom: the Rose (England), the Thistle (Scotland), and the Shamrock (Ireland).
​Inscription: "IRELAND HAILS WITH JOY THE VISIT OF HER SOVEREIGN AUG: 1821."
