Description
On the eve of the new millenium in 1999 the Irish Government's National Millenium Commitee sent each Irish household a candle by Rathbornes of Dublin, along with an excerpt from a poem. These items were sent with the purpose of bearing witness together to the once in a thousand year occasion of the dawn of the 2000 millenium. With a verse from William Butler Yeats, it was intended that all those present in the household would mark the millenium milestone by signing their names on the card and by lighting the candle. 25 years on, this is a nice piece of social history. Three poem cards and one empty candle tin are available. No candle. Card 25.5cm x 9cm. Tin 12cm x 6.5cm. See photos. €2 for tin and €1 each for poem cards.
