Table and ornamental ware of flint glass was made in Ireland in the course of the two hundred years from the 1690s onwards. The flint glasshouse in Potter's Alley, Marlborough Street, Dublin was the last of these establishments, where, up to 1890, decorated and plain glass of the highest quality and most fashionable styles was produced by the proprietors, Thomas and Richard Pugh. --Catriona Mac Leod, formerly assistant Keeper of the Art and Industrial Division, has studied the products of this glasshouse over many years. Indeed, it is due to her sustained efforts that so much of this important Pugh Glass was acquired for the National Collections. --forward by Breandan O Riordain, Director National Museum of Ireland.
