Antique 19thC Indian Copper Chambu Lota Ritual Vessel / Vase (217g)

Description

For sale is a beautiful 19th to early 20th-century antique South Asian Indian Chambu Lota (holy water vessel). This heavy, miniature ritual pot features exceptional hand-hammered repoussé metalwork with highly detailed, high-relief panels wrapping around the body.

The individual panels depict the Dashavatara (the various avatars of the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu), including clear representations of Matsya (the fish avatar) and Varaha (the boar avatar). The vessel features a classic bulbous form with an ornamental leaf pattern encircling the rim and base.

The interior shows authentic, crude hand-beaten construction marks typical of genuine period repoussé work, rather than modern cast reproductions.

Specifications:

Weight: 217 grams (as pictured) 8cm High

Technique: Hand-beaten repoussé and chased metalwork
