Franz Xaver Bergman - Vienna bronze model of an Irish Red Setter / sporting gun dog, model 3260.

Description

Important Antique Franz Xaver Bergman Large-Format Vienna Bronze Hunting Dog Sculpture.

A highly collectible and 100% authentic antique Vienna cold-painted bronze sculpture of a hunting bird dog (Irish Red Setter / Pointer) captured beautifully "on point". This exquisite cabinet piece was produced by the world-renowned Franz Xaver Bergman foundry in Vienna, Austria, during the late 19th or early 20th century.

Authentication & Hallmarks:
The underside of the sculpture features incredibly crisp, deeply struck, and entirely legible foundry markings:

The Bergman Monogram: The classic and coveted "B" inside a stylized amphora/urn vase.

Patent Stamp: Stamped "GESCHÜTZT" (Registered/Copyrighted), indicating it was a proprietary design of the Bergman workshop.

Serial Number: Deeply stamped "3260", corresponding directly to Bergman's archival documentation for his celebrated large-scale sporting and wildlife series.

Dimensions & Presence:
Unlike the vastly more common miniature Vienna bronzes, this is a premium large-format model that commands excellent visual presence on a mantle or desk.

Length: 23.5 cm (Approx. 9.25 inches)
Composition: Solid cast bronze

Condition Report:
Structure: Excellent antique condition. The delicate legs, ears, and long extended tail are completely structurally sound, unbent, and free of any repairs or fractures.

Surface/Finish: The piece displays an honest, untouched historic patina. It retains portions of its original Viennese cold-painted finish, with significant age-appropriate rubbing and paint loss that beautifully exposes the warm, natural golden bronze beneath. It has never been chemically cleaned or artificially touched up, preserving its full antique integrity.

A magnificent acquisition for serious collectors of Viennese bronzes, animalier art, or sporting dog antiques.
