Tridacna Gigas clams are the largest species of GIANT CLAM, a bivalve mollusc, found in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.

The shell of a bivalve is composed of calcium carbonate, and consists of two, usually similar, parts called valves. These are joined together along one edge by a flexible ligament that, in conjunction with interlocking "teeth"on each of the valves, forms the hinge.
Tridacna Gigas can be found at depth of as much as 20 m in flat corals or and or broken coral and have an average lifespan in the wild of 100 years or more.
Its range covers the Indo-Pacific, but populations are diminishing quickly and the giant clam has become extinct in many areas where it was once common.
From ancient times, at least since Roman times, Bivalves have been an important source both of food for humans and of natural pearls. The "Pearl of Lao Tzu" or "Pearl of Allah" is the world's largest pearl weighing 6.4 kilograms; it has been found in 1934 inside of Tridacna gigas.
Besides their use as food or as source of natural pearls, the shells of bivalves have had various uses as body decorations, utensils, scrapers and cutting implements, in craft work or the manufacture of jewellery and buttons.
Nowadays, Tridacna Gigas continue to amaze with its sizes, shape and beauty, being still very popular and very collectible.

These shells are still used as decorative objects in house, office or garden, utilized in Aquaria or just admired as a gorgeous collection item.

The shell has been preserved very careful
There are some chips, flaking and roughness to edges, as well as some fine internal hairlines (all stable) commensurate to the age!

Due to the heavy weight, Collection in Person is preferred.
