Victorian Amberina Art Glass Pitcher Jug. Hand Blown c.1885 to 1900

A beautiful and authentic late Victorian Amberina art glass pitcher, dating to approximately 1885–1900.

This is a hand-blown piece featuring a rich amber-to-ruby colour transition, an optic-moulded body, a hand-applied amber glass handle and a hand-worked pouring lip. The quality of the glass and craftsmanship are immediately apparent.

After extensive research, the pitcher appears to belong to the family of Victorian American Spot-Optic Amberina glass, produced during the final quarter of the 19th century. While the exact factory remains unconfirmed (many quality Amberina pieces were produced unmarked), its construction and design are entirely consistent with period American art glass. Specialist auctioneers classify similar examples as Spot-Optic Amberina pitchers with applied handles and polished pontils, made by New England Glass, Mount Washington and other contemporary makers. Comparable examples are attributed to various American factories rather than a single manufacturer.

Unlike many examples, this pitcher has an elegant plain strap handle rather than the more common reeded handle, giving it a distinctive appearance and making it an unusual variation.
