1888 Cavalry Carbine

Description

Condition: New

OBOSOLETE Martini Henry Cavalry Carbine, dated 1888 and made by Enfield arms. I C 1 - Interchangeable Carbine meaning parts can be switched between this and artillery carbines in the field. This was issued to New South Wales Mounted Rifles, trooper 370. This unit fought in the 2nd Boer war and fought in 4 major battles of that conflict which were the Battle of Diamond Hill, Battle of Driefontein, Battle of Poplar Grove and the Battle of Paardeberg. The rifle while made in 1888 was issued in July of 1889 in Sydney to the NSW MRifles. Rifle itself is of an obsolete caliber and made prior to 1889 which means its legal to own in Ireland not only due to its obsolete caliber but also its date of manufacture. Has multiple War Dept. markings and other interesting markings to be seen throughout, inc sold out of service markings.Post conflict this was then sold to Broken Hill rifle club in New South Wales. This is an exceptional example and in very nice overall condition with good wood and clear markings and not a relic like many encountered with a very interesting colonial historical aspect worthy of further research, last picture is an example of the same model for sale in the UK but with no unit markings. Open to trades and offers, can meet in dublin.
