“The upright stem resembles a candlestick. The transmitter (mouthpiece) is positioned at the top of the stand, while a separate receiver (earpiece) hangs on a switch hook mounted to the side.
This specific phone does not feature a rotary dial on its base. This indicates it is an early manual-service model (typically pre-1920s ). To make a call on this type of phone, a user would simply lift the earpiece from the hook to signal a central telephone operator, who would then manually plug a cord into a switchboard to connect the call “
