A beautiful piece.
‘Her Cross’
Print from the Somme Museum Collection, by the artist Lawson Wood, November 1915.
A sorrowful scene that captures a moving wartime image of a grief-stricken woman weeping at a desk after opening a package containing the personal effects of her fallen soldier, including his hat, sword and Victoria Cross.
The frame and print are in good condition.
The back paper covering has deteriorated, which is only to be expected after over 100 years.
Difficult to take good photos due to reflection from the glass.
The second photo is from the Somme Museum.
