For sale is an authentic antique Japanese lidded lacquer box, dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho period (c. 1890s–1910s). This charming cylindrical container features a dark reddish-brown lacquer base adorned with beautiful asymmetrical gold maki-e (sprinkled gold) panels.
The top lid features two distinct artistic vignettes: a black-ground panel depicting a Japanese Bush Warbler (Uguisu) perched on a blooming plum blossom branch, and a fan-shaped crest showing a traditional thatched-roof house and pine landscape. Stylized floral family crests (mon) are delicately scattered across the background.
The interior is finished in a classic matte black lacquer. The underside still retains fragments of its original vintage Japanese paper production label, which adds wonderful historical context to the piece.
