Vintage Prince Yamato Samurai Doll - Handmade Abaca & Rice Straw Paper
Legend: The heroic son of Emperor Keiko was surrounded by enemies who set fire to the long grass. Prince Yamato escaped by cutting his way through with his sword - discovering the sacred sword Kusanagi.
Handcrafted from hand-pulped abaca (Manila hemp) and rice straw paper over wire frame with clay face. Detailed rope armour, fibre hair and moustache.
Size: approx 30-32cm tall (12")
Era: 1960s/70s vintage - Japan/Philippines export
Condition: Good vintage. Some age wear to paper as expected. Original story tag included. Face paint intact.
Folk art / tourist craft, not a temple statue.
