Circa 1897 Singer Class 28 Sewing Machine - Display Piece

Description

Beautiful Singer Class 28 sewing machine dating as far back as 1897, with its original black cast-iron machine, decorative gold detailing and wooden case/base.

The serial number is 14666371, which places this machine in the Singer Class 28 series, allocated in 1897 at Singer's Clydebank/Kilbowie factory in Scotland.

A lovely piece, with plenty of character and the attractive original decorative finish associated with these early Singer machines.

The mechanism/handwheel turns freely, but I have not tested the machine for actual sewing, so I cannot confirm that it is fully operational. It is therefore being sold primarily as a display/collector's piece, or as a possible restoration project for someone who knows these machines.

Would make a wonderful decorative piece for a period home, study, sewing room, shop display, photography/film prop or antique sewing-machine collection.
