It is the largest medieval parish church in Ireland that has been in continuous use as a place of worship.
The church was founded in 1320 and dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra, the patron saint of seafarers.
Christopher Columbus is said to have prayed here in 1477 before a voyage.
The church has been a sanctuary and a significant landmark in the heart of Galway city for over 700 years.
