Life
Maurice was born on 29 June 1932 in Midleton, Cork as a son of Anastasia Hanley (nee Condon) and John Hanley.
He studied in Royal Hospital School (RHS) nicknamed "The Cradle of the Navy" in Holbrook. Also his brothers James Francis (Frank) and Michael Oliver studied there. The school is the only United Kingdom independent boarding school to be continuously granted the Queen's Banner. It also flies its own Admiralty-approved Royal Hospital School Blue Ensign. It is one of only two UK schools whose students have the privilege of wearing Royal Navy uniforms.
He married with Elizabeth "Betty" Hyde Jan 1958 in Hammersmith, London.

Maurice died 14 Dec 2015 Marian Place, Upper Aghada at Cork University Hospital and he is buried to All Saint's Cemetery Whitegate, County Cork.

Service
Served Devonport naval barracks and port division in Devon, England under the Special Service engagement. HMS Ganges- shore-based training establishment for Royal Navy boy entrants located at Shotley Gate, Suffolk.
Numerous sailors who later served in Korean waters aboard ships such as HMS Concord, HMS Belfast, or HMS Tyne had completed their initial basic training at HMS Ganges.
Served in Korea war at least 28 days and was entitled Korean Medal and UN Korea campaign medal.
He also served on board HMS Consort (R76) was a Royal Navy C-class destroyer that served actively during the Korean War following her famous involvement in the 1949 Yangtze Incident. Part of the Far East Fleet, she performed vital screening, blockade, and shore bombardment duties.
Task Force Attachment: Operated with US Navy Task Force 77 patrolling between Korea and Taiwan starting in July 1950.
West and East Coast Patrols: Enforced United Nations blockades, escorted larger units, and carried out shore bombardments along both the western and eastern coasts of Korea (including Wonsan).
Amgak Bombardment: Took part in heavy bombardments of enemy artillery batteries at Amgak alongside sister ships like HMS Crusader in April 1953 just before the armistice

Hanley Maurice Paul (Marian Place, Upper Aghada) on December 14th 2015 peacefully at Cork University Hospital. Beloved husband of Betty, loving father of Susan, Alan, Paul and the late Gary. Sadly missed also by his extended family, relatives and friends.
