James Bingham (b.1925) was born in Belfast. He later moved to London, working alongside his brother as a sign-writer for thirty years. Later returning to Belfast.

Well known for his friendship with Daniel O'Neill. They met in 1969 and Daniel became something of a mentor to Jimmy. Daniel encouraged Bingham to read all he could about art and painting- if you did not read, you were not a painter- was part of his philosophy. Bingham was with Daniel the night O'Neill died.

Bingham died in 2009. His works are vibrant and feature elements of narrative from a rural Ireland since disappeared. This painting displays his signature energy.
