TriviaThe mug features a traditional illustration of a lady in East Asian dress. This visual motif directly honors the roots of Bewley's Cafes, which was founded by a Quaker family that made history in 1835 by becoming the first independent merchants to import tea directly from Canton, China to Dublin. When the company incorporated as "Bewley’s Oriental Cafés Ltd" in 1926, they embraced exotic, East Asian, and Egyptian-influenced decor across their Dublin shops—most notably at their flagship Bewley's Grafton Street café, which opened in 1927.
