Description
An antique cast iron desktop embossing press dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. This heavy-duty mechanical office tool is in great working condition with connections to County Tipperary,
Ireland.
The brass matrix plates are deeply and crisply engraved with the institutional seal: "CONVENT OF MERCY, BALLYCARRON, GOLDEN, CO. TIP."
The Sisters of Mercy have a profound history in the region, and this press would have been used by the convent leadership to officially validate legal deeds, property documents, and educational records.
Very decorative and usable antique piece.
