Victorian McGill's Eagle No. 1 Staple Press

Description

A rare McGill’s Eagle No. 1 single-stroke staple press, dating to the late Victorian or early Edwardian era (circa 1890–1910). Invented by George W. McGill, this heavy cast-iron mechanical artefact is a beautiful piece of early industrial design and a must-have for collectors of antique office supplies, stationaria, or desktop Americana.
Unlike many surviving units, this press is entirely complete. The heavy vertical plunger operates smoothly, and the internal return spring retains strong, responsive tension.
The original black japanned finish is heavily worn but still displays the "McGill's Eagle Trade Mark Staple Press No. 1" shield graphic on the base plate. Traces of the original gold pinstripe borders are still visible.
