Own a piece of history. A time capsule & a radio in one.
Step back in time with this stunning original Philips table radio from the golden age of wireless! This classic cream-and-beige beauty still fires up and works perfectly – I switched it on this morning and it sprang to life with that warm, rich valve sound you just can’t get from modern sets.
Look closely at the glass dial panel on the unit. It features "Moscow II" and "Luxembourg I" side-by-side with "Dublin" and "Cork".
The Philips B3X96A built this specific model entirely with premium, highly durable mica and ceramic capacitors. Because Philips built this chassis like a piece of industrial communication equipment rather than a cheap household toy, it is exactly why the radio still boots up and works perfectly 67 years later.
The dial lights up with a lovely glow, and the stations roll in loud and clear. Look at that incredible original dial – packed with the stations of a bygone era: Moscow II, Luxembourg I, BBC Light, BBC Third, Vatican, Hilversum, Trawler band, and dozens more. Long Wave, Medium Wave and Short Wave (plus pickup input) – the full European listening experience of the 1950s and early 60s right in your living room. Horizontal grille, iconic Philips shield badge, solid push-button band selection and those big chrome-edged knobs… pure mid-century cool. It looks fantastic as a decorative piece too, but this one actually works – no “for parts only” here! Yes, it’s lived a life (some honest age marks, but that only adds to the authentic character. Anyone who wants a real working piece of radio history that still pulls in stations the way Grandad used to hear them.
Local collection preferred (Ireland) – it’s a solid, weighty set. Happy to answer any questions or send more photos. Don’t let this slice of wireless history slip away – they don’t make them like this anymore! You might not see one again.
I would prefer collection at Beaumont because it's a 1950s radio.
