"A 'Meniscus' glass offers us the ability to measure our pleasure: by oral temperament, liquid time elapsed, sips, mouthfuls and gulps. Richard Wentworth says, "I like the way we say 'I'll be with you as soon as I finish my drink”.

British sculptor Richard Wentworth designed this glass in 2004 exclusively for Tate in celebration of his landmark 2005 exhibition at Tate Liverpool, the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of the artist's work at the time. The exhibition explored Wentworth's ability to combine, transform or manipulate found objects to bring a new awareness of the everyday to the viewer, something that the design of this glass showcases.

The drinking glass plays on the idea of a measuring glass, only the units measured here relate to our enjoyment of the drink rather than the liquid itself - lines representing 'oral temperament', 'liquid time elapsed', and sips, mouthfuls and gulps decorate the glass. Wentworth says of the design 'I like the way we say "I'll be with you as soon as I finish my drink"'.

Available again from Tate Shop to celebrate 20 years since the opening of the Tate Liverpool exhibition, the Meniscus glass is a functional, witty and thoughful piece of art memorabillia!
