@naturalgas Yep, it works but only one type.
iPad 9th gen supports:
1. Apple Pencil 1st gen- the old one with Lightning port + cap you remove to charge.
2. USB-C Apple Pencil- the newer cheaper one.
Does NOT support:
Apple Pencil 2nd gen with magnetic side charging. That one only works on iPad Air 4+, iPad Pro 11" 2nd gen+, iPad mini 6+
USB-C one is less annoying since iPad 9th gen is Lightning port too, but you get a USB-C to Lightning adapter in the Pencil 1 box.
If you’re buying used, avoid fakes.
Real Pencil 1st gen pairs via Bluetooth when you plug it into iPad Lightning port.
