A stunning and rare colonial heavily carved hardwood desk. A statement piece, featuring intricate, deep-relief foliate and mythical animal carvings throughout, topped with an ornate pierced fretwork gallery unit.

Beautifully carved figural legs/supports, featuring mythical birds, serpents and other animals.
It also has a small secret drawer at the side.

The top unit features a central rack/pigeon top compartment flanked by 5 drawers.
The writing surface has a green felt insert. In side the desk, there are 2 drawers.
Behind a side panel, there are 4 very deep drawers. a There is a small secret drawer above the side panel.
The wood is rich, dark and very dense - traditionally teak or blackwood was used for such desks
Condition
Good antique condition, with a lovely aged patina. It’s structurally solid, but shows some signs of aged related wear, commensurate with its age.
Origin: most likely Burma or India
