This beautiful image is a framed vintage print of the paiting "The Immaculate Conception of Los Benerables" by the Spanish artist Bartolome Esteban Murillo. 32 x 41 cm
The original painting dates to around 1665 and is one of the Murillos most important works.
It depicts the Virgin Mary, standing on a crescent moon and surrounded by angels and clouds, looking up towards heaven.
The painting illustrates the Catholic dogma of the Immaculate Concetion, which Posits that Mary was born without original sin
Murillo was well known for this subject and used a technique that made the image appear to be moving or ascending, giving an impression of sacred purity and grace
