The Dunlop Dimebag Cry Baby from Hell Wah (DB01B) is widely considered the most versatile wah pedal in Dunlop’s entire lineup. Developed in direct collaboration with legendary Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, this pedal hot-rods the classic 535Q Multi-Wah architecture into an aggressive, highly adjustable tone-shaping powerhouse tailored specifically for high-gain riffs and screaming lead solos.

Key Features & Tone Shaping

6-Way Frequency Selector: A side-mounted dial lets you choose between six distinct frequency ranges, shifting the sweep from deep and throaty to high and piercing.

Extended Sweep Range: Features a wider physical and electronic sweep sweep than traditional wahs, allowing for deeper lows when the heel is down and extreme highs when the toe is clicked forward.

YouTube +1

Adjustable Volume Boost: Includes a dedicated, foot-switchable kick-in side button that delivers up to a +17 dB clean volume boost to cut directly through a heavy live mix during solos.

Variable Q Control: Fine-tunes the shape and intensity of the wah's bandpass filter, morphing the effect from a wide, subtle sweep to a tight, dramatic vocal peak.

www.thomann.ie +1

Fine Tune Control: A dedicated knob to precisely adjust the brightness of the toe-down frequency so your top-end harmonics never sound overly harsh or dull.

Jim Dunlop +1

Skateboard Griptape Tread: Replaces the traditional rubber top pad with heavy-duty skateboard skid tape to ensure your foot doesn't slip on stage.

promusica.ie +1

Dual Outputs & Stage LEDs: Outfitted with back-mounted LED indicators to show at a glance if the wah or boost is active. It also features a second programmable output jack to easily split your signal or run a parallel effect chain.

How to Set It Up Like Dimebag

If you want to pull Dimebag’s signature high-gain, vocal-squeal tone directly out of the box, try these specific setting coordinates recommended by gear technicians:

Frequency Range: Set the 6-way selector to the 5th position (closest to his studio sound) or the 4th position for a wider, more aggressive sweep live.

Variable Q: Dial it to roughly 70%. Pinning it to maximum can overly scoop your mids, losing the "pom" vocal quality of his tone.

Fine Tune: Roll this all the way up clockwise to Max to capture the extreme top-end sharpness necessary for piercing pinch harmonics.

Yes, Dunlop still manufactures the Cry Baby from Hell, but they updated it a few years ago.

To get an accurate resale value, you first need to identify which version you own, as the older original model actually commands a higher price on the used market.

Which Version Do You Have?

VersionProduction YearsAestheticReverb Used Value (Very Good Condition)Original DB012003 – 2019Greenish/Brown Traditional Camo€130 – €200+ ($140 – $220)Current DB01B2020 – PresentSleek Black Camo€100 – €145 ($110 – $160)

Valuation Breakdown

The Original DB01 (Green Camo): Because this version was discontinued in 2019, it has become a collector's item for Pantera purists. If your pedal is in very good condition with minimal paint chipping on the metal casing, it trends toward the higher end of the €130 to €200 price bracket.

Reverb +1

The Modern DB01B (Black Camo): Since anyone can buy this brand new right now from retailers like

Thomann

for around $209 / €200, the resale value drops slightly. In very good used condition, they consistently move on platforms like

Reverb

for between €100 and €145.

How to Maximize the Sale Price

Check for the Box: If you still have the original Dunlop box, manual, and the little wrench used to adjust the pedal's physical resistance torque, you can easily add an extra €15 to €25 to your asking price.

The Grip Tape Factor: The skateboard skid tape on top is notorious for collecting dust and shoe rubber. Taking a stiff-bristled brush (like an old toothbrush) with a tiny drop of soapy water to scrub the tread clean before taking photos will significantly boost its visual appeal to buyers.

Which camo finish does your pedal have (the older green/brown or the newer black)? If you'd like, I can help you write a compelling listing description for eBay or Reverb to help it sell quickly!

Having the original green/brown camo DB01 means you are sitting on the more desirable version of this pedal. Because Dunlop discontinued this exact aesthetic look back in 2019, it carries a premium for players looking for an era-accurate Pantera or Damageplan setup.

Maximum Value Price: €180 – €200+ (If you have the original retail box, manual, and the torque adjust wrench).
