I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)
For sale here, is A Fantastic Limited-Edition Hand-Signed Lithograph Print of a Caribbean Scene by the Renowned French Artist Alexandre Minguet (1937-1996), #737/1000
I am the proud owner of four limited edition signed prints by this French artist who spent much of his life on the island of Saint Martin in the Caribbean, where there is still a gallery that bears his name, run by his family.
The four prints I have are currently un-framed but have been well kept behind glass, over the years, so are in excellent condition. They deserve bespoke frames, which are unfortunately outside of my budget at the minute, so I am happy to sell them un-framed, but protected by mountboard.
If they don’t sell, I will put them in off-the-peg frames for the time being, until I can afford proper framing, but if that happens I’ll probably keep them, as I do love them! They won’t survive being in storage when we have to move out, which is the only reason for the sale.
This limited-edition lithograph print is numbered 737/1000 and features a coastal scene in St. Martin, Caribbean. In addition to having the Minguet signature as part of the print, this example also benefits from having been hand-signed by the artist. There are slight impressions of the print on the reverse of the card, which proves it’s status as a genuine lithographic print.
The card that the lithograph is printed on measures 8.25 inches/ 21cm by 6.25 inches/ 16cm. The printed area measures 4 inches/ 10cm by 2.25 inches/ 6cm, excluding the signature.
Minguet Lithographic Prints are highly collectable, especially on the American market and for anyone with a connection with the Caribbean. They realise prices between €250 and €2,000 depending on the print and edition. I am pricing mine to sell, and will not be entertaining any low-ball offers.
A little bit about the artist (apologies, badly translated from French!):
“Alexandre Minguet French Artist: b. 1937. Born in Beziers (France) in 1937. Pupil of the Conservatoire des Arts et metiers in Paris and the academies in Montparnasse and the Ecole du Louvre. From his meeting with the artists, will be born his first attempts and his first exhibitions. In that way Alexandre Minguet's artistic career begins, with a classical period under the rule of his teacher Maryse Ducaire. In the full bloom of his art Alexandre Minguet possesses and masters, through his love of painting and of life, a deep feeling of participation in the knowledge of nature through humble motives. His work simply bears witness to these qualities.
He spent many years in Saint Martin, and a gallery there still bears his name: Minguet Art Gallery is an art gallery on Rambaud Hill in Saint-Martin, located on the main road between Marigot and Grand-Case, devoted to the work of French-born artist Alexandre Minguet (1937–1996) and other Caribbean artists. His works capture the colors that come from the vivid light of the island. Set near Colombier at the top of Rambaud Hill, the gallery preserves and sells Minguet originals, prints, and related materials while presenting works by regional painters.”
This listing is for one of the four prints I will have for sale. Keep an eye out on my recent and upcoming ads.
