About the Artist (Basil Spackman)

​Charles Basil Slater Spackman (1895–1971) was a notable and highly prolific landscape artist.

​Background: Originally born in the UK, Spackman retired from his primary career in 1950 at the age of 55 to formally pursue his passion for art, studying at the Hammersmith School of Art.

​The Irish Connection: Around 1955, he relocated to Ireland, settling down in Tracton, Minane Bridge in County Cork. He lived there until his passing in 1971, becoming a highly regarded and beloved figure in the local Munster art community.

​Exhibitions: During the 1960s, his talent earned him space in multiple prestigious art exhibitions across Cork, Dublin, and London, as well as the Royal Scottish and Welsh Academies.

​Market Value: His watercolor and oil pieces regularly appear at prominent Irish and British auction houses (such as James Adam & Sons, Morgan O'Driscoll, and Mealy's).
