@dilon: there are lots of videos and the official website explaining what it does. Basically if someone is using the TV you can use the portal device to play your PlayStation as long as you're connected to the WiFi. Or if you just want to game in a different part of the house, like in bed or something. You can also use it when travelling as you'll have access to your games library on it anywhere as long as you're connected to WiFi.

@dilon: no, you need a PlayStation 5 to use this remotely.

@dilon: actually I checked about it there and there was an update in November last year that allows the device to be used without a PlayStation console. It just requires a PlayStation plus premium subscription so you can cloud stream games.
