The S.S. Hibernia was a British passenger steamer launched in 1900 for the London and North Western Railway Company , She primarily served the high volume mail and passenger route between Holyhead , Dublin and Kingston ( Dún Laoghaire ) , She was requisitioned by the British Admiralty at the outbreak of WW1 and renamed HMS Tara. It was commissioned as an armed boarding steamer but was tragically torpedoed by the German Submarine U-35 in November 1915 in the Mediterranean.
