A Gig Poster of the Rock Band Rodeo

Description

An original poster of the country rock band Rodeo for the Freshers' Ball held at the University of Ulster in Coleraine on the 3rd October, 1974. The poster is in black and white with the gig details filled in with red and purple felt tip pens. The poster measures 15 inches by 20 inches; 38 cms. by 50.75 cms. It has yellowing sellotape and pinhole marks in each corner. The top also has a strip of sellotape. The poster has some slight creases and two light horizontal and vertical fold marks. Despite its age however, there is no paper toning. In the photographs the poster is held in place by coins in each corner.

The support act Bananas were a short lived rock band active from 1974 to 1976, often associated with the college - university circuit and the Dublin - Belfast club scene. Founded by Jody Pollard on lead guitar, Ken Wilson on second guitar and Robin Irvine on bass, the group also featured Carl Geraghty on saxophone, and either Jon Donnelly or Robin Lavery on drums. Mike O'Hagan AKA Michael Sherrard on lead vocals was a brother of Eurovision Song Contest winner Johnny Logan AKA Sean Sherrard. Carl Geraghty played the distinctive saxophone on Johnny Logan's: What's Another Year; and Michael became a guitarist in his brother's backing band.
