Lovely Vintage Louis Mulcahy Carafe and Two Matching Footed Goblets in the Fuchsia Pattern, Green and Pink Colourway, from 1989

Description

I am continuing my effort to downsize, it seems to be never-ending! I have so much art pottery in my collections, more than I can possibly ever display. I have quite an eclectic selection available already in my ads, but this set now has to go to, as I ready my collections for storage and downsizing.

For sale here, is a Lovely Vintage Louis Mulcahy Carafe and Two Matching Footed Goblets in the Fuchsia Pattern, Green and Pink Colourway, from 1989.

This is a lovely and practical set, perfect for display, but also for use, for water or wine. The glaze is a lovely speckled off-white colour with the addition of pink and green decoration. The carafe has two fuchsia blooms, one in pink, one in green, with pink and green banding at the top, middle, and base. The two matching footed goblets have the same colour glaze with the pink and green banding.

All three pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or any other issues. Even the original stopper for the carafe is still present. The carafe stands just under than 10 inches/ 25cm tall and the footed goblets stand just over 4 inches/ 10.5cm tall.

Louis Mulcahy won first prize for pottery in the National Crafts Competition in 1975, and decided to move his workshop from Dublin to Dingle. He and his family, left secure employment in television, sold their house and invested their savings in the then very risky venture.
His vision was to produce the aesthetically and technically best pottery and to develop a studio/workshop which would leave an indelible print on the long term history of Irish handcraft. 50 Year later, he has definitely done so!!

Unlike many modern potters he does not buy readymade glazes, but makes his own glazes from natural silica, fluxes and colouring minerals. His clay bodies are blended from stoneware and porcelain clays of the highest quality.

Louis Mulcahy pots are by far the strongest and most durable of all handmade Pottery. They are widely recognised for their unusual long life and resistance to abuse. His tableware is guaranteed oven, microwave and dishwasher proof.

I will have more art pottery available shortly, including some more Louis Mulcahy, when I make more decisions as to how much I can keep and what I have to let go.
