The Penn No. 180 was specifically engineered as a light-to-medium tackle reel. It is highly optimized for inshore bay fishing, bottom fishing, and light baitcasting targeting species like fluke, flounder, black sea bass, and small coastal game. Because of their rugged build, many vintage fishing enthusiasts still actively restore and upgrade these "tank-like" reels with carbon drag washers to fish

vintage Penn No. 180 "Baymaster" conventional casting fishing

Manufactured in the United States by the PENN Fishing Tackle Manufacturing Company, this classic model was introduced around 1939–1941 and remained a staple for inshore anglers until it was discontinued in the early 1970s.

Design Elements: Features black Bakelite side plates with a distinctively styled emblem logo, a rigid chrome-plated frame, and a counter-balanced handle fitted with a bright blue torpedo-shaped power knob.
Lubrication: Standard "One-Shot" external lubrication port visible right near the center hub.
Features: Equipped with a mechanical star drag system, free-spool clutch lever on the rim, and a sliding clicker mechanism on the opposite plate.
PENN built these reels "like tanks" In excellent condition.
