The BYD SEAL U DM-i Design AWD takes everything that makes the SEAL U such an impressive family SUV and adds a serious performance edge.

As the flagship Design AWD model, it combines BYD's advanced Super DM-i plug-in hybrid technology with four-wheel drive, 323PS and 550Nm of torque. The result is a large, premium SUV that can deliver genuinely rapid performance while retaining the flexibility of electric driving and petrol-powered long-distance travel.

323PS – AWD – 0–100KM/H IN JUST 5.9 SECONDS

This is where the Design AWD really separates itself from the front-wheel-drive SEAL U models.

The system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors — one driving the front wheels and one driving the rear — producing a combined 238kW / 323PS and 550Nm of torque.

With intelligent all-wheel drive, the SEAL U DM-i Design accelerates from 0–100km/h in just 5.9 seconds, while maintaining the smooth, quiet character you'd expect from an electrified powertrain.

That gives the SEAL U a very different character from an ordinary family SUV. It has the space and comfort you need for everyday life, but with performance that makes a country-road or motorway journey considerably more engaging.

PLUG-IN HYBRID FLEXIBILITY FOR IRISH DRIVING

The Design AWD uses an 18.3kWh BYD Blade Battery and offers up to 70km of WLTP combined pure-electric range.

For everyday Irish driving, that means you can plug in at home and use electric power for shorter journeys such as commuting, school runs and local trips, while the petrol engine gives you the freedom to travel much further when required.

BYD quotes a combined electric-and-petrol range of up to 870km WLTP for the Design AWD.

So you're not tied to charging infrastructure on longer trips — ideal for travelling from Dublin to Cork, Galway, Kerry, Donegal or anywhere else around Ireland.

The panoramic glass roof helps create a bright and spacious cabin, while the heated and ventilated seats make the SEAL U particularly comfortable during both cold Irish mornings and warmer summer journeys.

BUILT FOR FAMILY LIFE

Despite its performance, the SEAL U remains a seriously practical SUV.

It seats five and provides 425 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,440 litres with the rear seats folded. The rear seats split 40/60, giving you flexibility when carrying passengers and larger items at the same time.

At 4.775 metres long, there is generous cabin space for both front and rear passengers, making it equally suited to family life, commuting and longer trips around Ireland.

AWD FOR MORE THAN JUST PERFORMANCE

The four-wheel-drive system isn't simply about getting the quickest acceleration.

The Design AWD adds additional drive modes including Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, Sand and Mud, allowing the vehicle's drivetrain to adapt to different driving conditions.

For Irish driving, that extra traction can be particularly useful on wet roads, steep gradients and challenging surfaces, while the standard road-driving modes allow the SEAL U to remain smooth and relaxed during everyday use.

V2L – POWER BEYOND THE CAR

The SEAL U DM-i Design AWD also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing the vehicle's battery to supply up to 3.3kW of power to compatible external equipment.

It's another clever feature that demonstrates how BYD has designed the SEAL U around more than simply getting from A to B.
