Dell PowerEdge T340 Tower Server | Xeon | iDRAC 8-Bay LFF | No RAM/Drives Bundle Available | Homelab

Description

A proper enterprise-grade tower server from Dell's PowerEdge range.
Built like a tank and designed for years of reliable 24/7 operation. The T340 is one of the best-reviewed small business servers ever made, packing an Intel Xeon E-series processor, iDRAC remote management, dual onboard 1GbE NICs, and support for up to 64GB of ECC DDR4 UDIMM RAM across 4 DIMM slots (although users have gotten 128gb working).
Eight hot-swap 3.5" drive bays give you serious storage expansion headroom.
A mini sas to sata cable can also be installed if you wanted add an additional 4 sata drives inside the tower.
The machine comes with x2 1 meter power cables for the dual redundant PSUs
Selling bare — no RAM or drives included.
Perfect for a homelab, NAS replacement, Proxmox/ESXi host, small business file server, or Jellyfin/Plex media server.

I'll throw in 16gb (8x2) ECC UDIMM DDR4 for 50 extra

I also have 8x 3.5in Dell official caddies seen working with this sever and 3x 2.5in drive adaper trays. I'll throw all that in for no extra charge!

I am also selling 6tb sas drives with low hours, which I was using with this server. Make me any offers for the machine itself or bundle deals ---SOLD---

How do you find the noise of the fans on the machine? are there any issues with reliability on boot / running for a period of time?
23ilir 3 weeks ago
@Aidan959 There's only 1 fan on this machine so as you can imagine it's quite powerful to cool the whole system by itself. It can be loud, I've been told there are bios settings you can use to make it more silent but I never bothered. I also had a non dell GPU plugged in so I belive it made it louder for my usage. I had it in a different room so I didn't care much for the noise. Start up had 0 issues and it never shut down or crashed on me once, extremely reliable tank

Would it be possible for me to test the machine at your location with my PCIe NVME drive set up? I am running a poweredge r720xd that is incredibly loud and am looking for a smaller form factor machine which is more reliable !

@Aidan959 the t340 is Height 430mm Width 218mm Depth 603mm. I belive it's a bit smaller then your rack mount overall but its still a large unit. I was looking it up and apparently mine idles at about 50 odd db and yours is about 55-60db so not a huge drop in noise but there is a bit of a difference

I think my machine is faulty - it ram trains on boot (there is 192 gb of ram in it and no amount of testing has identified a faulty stick), which I think contributes to the loud idle noise - the upright unit will fit into an eave in my attic.

would some time over the next week suit for me to take a look at the machine?
