English candlestick from the Victorian era.

Description

Victorian brass candlestick with a beehive motif, made in England. The distinctive, profiled column with rings recalls the traditional beehive structure, a design that was extremely popular in British crafts in the late 19th century.
The "ENGLAND RD 223580" stamped on the brass base clearly identifies this authentic English candlestick from the Victorian era.
The "RD" abbreviation stands for Registered Design. 223580 is the official British Patent Office patent registration number, which allows us to precisely date this design to late 1893 or early 1894. Many of these candlesticks (produced by, among others, well-known Birmingham manufacturers such as James Clews & Sons and James Barlow) had an internal mechanism at the bottom that pushed out broken candle ends using a metal rod with a button (push-up ejector).
