1 year old male guinea pig

Description

Garfield the guinea pig is getting lonely after being separate from his female relatives. He's living in his own cage and looking for a new home, preferably with another guinea pig he could be friends with.
Cage and water bottle included.
He's roughly 14 months old and likes head pats. Sometimes.

Tips when adopting a pet

  • Confirm the pet is vaccinated & vet checked
  • Meet with the Adverts user before agreeing to the adoption
  • Check the pet is old enough for adoption

Do you think he'd be okay with another male? How is he when handled?

@Shopper2016: @Shopper2016: I think he would be okay with another male as long as they aren't trying to compete over females! That's why I didn't get another male guinea pig to share his cage -- the girls' cage is near enough that they'd probably fight over them (pointlessly). He's a bit of a scaredy cat and runs away when you go to pick him up. Once he's on your arm or lap he's alright.

Hi, I could collect this evening

I could give him a good home. I promise!

I have no females. I have two male babies that share a cage (bought them together) and an older rescue who I was told is 2/3 years old but he's a softy. So soft that when I introduced him to the babies they both tried to assert dominance and my rescue just left them it has he had any health problems at all?

@Lisa niaolain: Hi, do you have other guinea pigs at the moment, or have you had them before?
zynaps about a day ago
@Shopper2016: Ah nice, glad they're getting on well! Garf hasn't had any health problems, but we also haven't had him checked out (or snipped, hence why we had to separate him from the two females).

That's great to know that he's healthy. If there was anything seriously wrong you'd have noticed without a vet check. I lost my first guinea pig cuddles not too long ago due to dental issues. I had to get him put to sleep. He was only roughly 5 months old. I got my rescue Cookie so that my cuddles would have a little friend, but 5 days later cuddles passed away. Now Cookie is alone in his cage, because the babies bully him too much so I can't have them in with him.

May I ask the only reason you're looking for a new home is because you don't want him lonely and it would cause too many problems getting him a male friend (due to having females close by)

such small cage. They need to run 5km per day.
zynaps about a day ago
@Shopper2016: That, but also having two cages of pigs is a bit much in this tiny house. Someone gave us a female pig in late 2024 so we set up a cage for her. Didn't know she was pregnant when we got her, but a couple of months later she popped out a girl and a boy (Sandy and Garf).
Within about a week it was time to get Garf his own cage, which made him *really* sad for a few days. I meant to move either Garf or both the girls on sooner, but just didn't get round to it until now.

@Isaac Georgi: yes, there's not enough space inside the house for big cages. We put them in the garden for a few hours a day while it's warm, although I don't think any of them runs for 5km in that time -- not sure where you got that number from.

Hi yes, we had 2 females for 7 years . They were sisters, our rabbit passed away a few months ago. We do have other pets. My kids love animals more than people. Dont worry he will be well loved and taken care of should you allow me to adopt him.

Have a secure outdoor run from previous pets
zynaps about a day ago
@Lisa niaolain: Outdoor run sounds great! Would you prefer to take our two females? Ideally I'd like Garf to join another guinea pig since it's not good for him to be spending so much time on his own.
Lisa niaolain about a day ago
I could get him a buddy. I know they are quite sociable. Thats how we ended up with the sisters. Petshop would only sell in pairs. What are the girls like, how old, and issues to note? Any photos
Shopper2016 about a day ago
@Lisa a lot of pet shops nowadays are the opposite they're very reluctant to sell two males together, or to sell a male if you already have a male piggie, due to the possibility of fighting. I was told male fights if they get any scent of a female and that includes if neighbours doors down have a female. They can smell from a distance. That doesn't mean they won't sell male pairs, but they do tell you not to let them share a cage. Which is silly because in some countries it's illegal to buy any guinea pig, as they sell them in pairs.

@Zynaps I'm sure you'll find a great home for Garfield. I'm going to have a think about if I could manage a 4th one and get back to you, if that's ok?
Lisa niaolain about a day ago
Ya no bother do whatever you think is best for garfield. Hope to hear from you if not Iwish ya all the best!
zynaps about a day ago
@Lisa niaolain: grand -- I'll post a photo of the girls tomorrow.

@Shopper2016 no worries. Interesting to hear some pet shops are wary of selling pairs of males. Like you said, I heard it was illegal to keep a solitary guinea pig in some countries because they get depressed!
