Stamps - Sir Rowland Hill 1979 First Day Covers Album - Great Historic Stamps + Europa 79

Description

DON’T FORGET TO LOOK AT MY OTHER ADS!

The Sumner Collection "Great Historic Stamps First Day Covers" album: a world collection of first day covers issued in 1978–79 for the centenary of the death of Sir Rowland Hill (1795–1879), the father of the postage stamp and the man behind the Penny Black.

Each cover sits in its own protective sleeve on an illustrated information page explaining the stamps, their designers and printers, and the history of the issuing country. Many of the stamps reproduce the great classics of philately: the Penny Black, Two Penny Blue, Cape of Good Hope Triangular, Inverted Jenny, Graf Zeppelin, Queen Victoria £5 Orange and more.

Covers on their pages:
South Africa, Nauru, Maldives, Gibraltar, Dominica, Central African Empire, Austria, Antigua, Anguilla.

Also included, three Europa 1979 first day covers on the postal history theme:

Andorra (Andorra la Vella, 30 April 1979), Spain (Madrid, 30 April 1979), and France (Paris, 28 April 1979, numbered historic cover No. 1119).

12 first day covers in total, all with first day postmarks.

Point of interest: the Antigua information page misprints the top value as $3 and the issue date as 30 January 1979. The cover correctly carries the $2 stamp with a 12 February 1979 first day postmark.

Please note: the Comoro Islands cover is missing from its page.

Condition: covers are generally good, with typed addresses. The Antigua cover is creased, and there is slight toning to the Nauru cover. The album shows light wear to the cover and edges.

Please see all photos.

A lovely thematic collection for anyone interested in postal history, the Penny Black or world stamps.

Well packed with tracked UK postage. Collection welcome from Belfast or Dublin.
