Coffee Table (Mid Century Chinoiserie)

A striking mid-20th century Chinoiserie lacquered coffee table featuring a beautifully  scalloped top with finely hand painted eastern landscape scenes in gilt and muted tones.  The black lacquer surface is rich with detail, depicting elegant figures, pagodas and stylised clouds, all framed by a raised edge with subtle geometric and foliate motifs. 

The top rests upon an intricately hand carved mahogany base with acanthus leaf decoration, cabriole legs and claw-and-ball feet - a design that reflects strong Georgian and Chippendale influences.  The craftsmanship is evident throughout, with gentle ageing and patina enhancing the charm of this delightful piece.
