Unusual and Practical Mid-Century Modern Wooden Coffee Table with a Hard-Wearing Wood-Patterned Melamine Top and Slatted Magazine Shelf

I am continuing my effort to downsize as unfortunately we will have to move all our belongings into temporary storage due to builders carrying out major remediation works to our brand new home.

I’m trying to minimize the pain by reducing the amount of packing required to be done and reducing the amount of furniture going into storage.

For sale here is a Unusual and Practical Mid-Century Modern Wooden Coffee Table with a Hard-Wearing Wood-Patterned Melamine Top and Slatted Magazine Shelf.

This is a fabulous and practical piece, and served us well, especially when the kids were younger and likely to ruin a wooden top!!!!
But the kids are older and (hopefully) more responsible, so since the house move we have gone with a triangular shaped mid-century modern wooden coffee table, and this one doesn’t have a permanent spot in our living room.

As everything has to go into storage, I’m happy to let it go.
But I won’t be entertaining any low-ball offers, all the same!!

I haven’t been able to find a makers mark on this piece, or an exact similar piece online.
It may have been a locally produced (Ireland or Great Britian) piece in the style of the famous mid-century furniture makers.

No matter the provenance, it’s a great practical piece in the fabulous mid-century style.

The coffee table is rectangular in form but slightly wider across the centre than at the ends. The tabletop has a stylish ridged lip at the two end edges. There is an eight-slat magazine shelf underneath, very handy to store some coffee table books.

The wood is in good condition throughout, commensurate with the age of the piece. The melamine tabletop is in excellent condition with no heat marks, lifting, melting or any other damage.

The table is 42 inches/ 107cm in length, 18 inches/ 46 cm in depth in the centre, and 16 inches/ 41 cm tall.

The table is perfect for use in a mid-century style interior and would be equally at home in a contemporary setting.
The melamine tabletop is a very practical surface, especially if displaying plants, or living with pesky kids!!

A great chance to purchase a genuine item of mid-century design and manufacture, for not much more than the price of a modern big box flatpack made yesterday!
