Durston X-Mid 1P Solid Ultralight Backpacking Tent - 2nd Generation Model (2022-2024)

Description

Durston X-Mid 1P Solid Ultralight Backpacking Tent - 2nd Generation Model (2022-2024)

Bought in May 2023 for $269 dollars + around $160 in shipping fees

Selling for €140

Please note: This is a trekking pole tent which means two trekking poles are required to pitch the tent. Trekking poles are not included so you will need to provide your own. You should be able to get a decent set for €20-40 in any good camping shop or online.

The pegs that came with the tent broke so I can provide some basic, but strong, plastic yellow ones if needed or you may prefer to use your own

The tent is in very good condition.

However, there are 9-10 small to medium tears on the tent - please see photos - I have factored these into the price before selling. The biggest tear is 9-10cm long. These should be easily remedied using Gear Aid Tenacious Tape (Ripstop Sage Green), can pick up for €12.99 on Great Outdoors’s website, or an adhesive like Seam Grip on clean fabric. I have added a photo of a reply by Dan Durston, the designer of these tents. who is responding to a Durston tent user with advice in how to best deal with a tear. In addition to this, there are plenty of resources on DurstonGear.com and social media Durston community forums on how to fix tears. It is a common occurrence. While these tears need to be addressed sooner rather than later to prevent them from getting bigger, the tent can still be pitched fine with them as you can see in pictures, and I would every confidence it would still do fine in any type of weather with the tears as they are. What I have read is that tears are part of parcel of ultralight tents because of the finer material they use for the construction to make savings on the overall weight

1 x stuff-sack tent bag included

1 x bag for pegs included that fits in tent bag

I haven’t weighed the tent so I don’t want to say exactly what it weighs, but I searched online and it states the second generation model weighs 795g (28oz). I think that is before you add pegs, stuff sack etc

This tent has done great in all conditions, heavy wind, rain, Irish coldest weather etc

I am selling as I bought the Third Generation Durston Solid X-Mid in 2025 and this one is surplus to requirements

If you are interested in learning about the features of this tent and how it is pitched, here is a good introduction video: https://youtu.be/HYizObkEnI0?is=Vhx6xGGV6EFQ7X0D

How did it get all the holes?
david.m.evoy.3 1 day ago
@treeman as mentioned in the description, the tent is three years old and there is more of a risk with ultralight tents that there will be tears/rips as the fabric used is thinner. In addition to that, the tent was probably pitched with too much tension at times in an attempt to get the ‘perfect pitch’ to maximise space inside and in the two vestibules on either side. The tears are located mostly where the tension points are. While I find the Durston tents are quick and easy to pitch, I also find I need to return sometimes and watch the pitching videos to learn the balance that’s needed to get the right tension when pitching the four corners out - it’s easy to be a bit heavy handed with this process, which runs the risk of getting holes after you have put in and extended the hiking poles.
