Vintage ARISTO Automatic PUW1464-One-Off Watchmaker Custom with Baltic Amber Dial

Description

ARISTO Automatic PUW1464 – One-Off Watchmaker Custom with Baltic Amber Accents
A one-off transformation built from a vintage ARISTO automatic from my own amber-themed collection.
This is not a factory-correct restoration, and it does not pretend to be one.
It is a deliberate watchmaker-made reimagining of an honest German vintage watch – preserving its age, its scars, and its character, while giving it an entirely new identity.
Built around the original ARISTO automatic with the PUW 1464 movement, this piece belongs to the late 1960s / early 1970s era of Pforzheim watchmaking. ARISTO itself is a historic Pforzheim maker, rooted in Germany’s long tradition of watch- and jewellery-making.
Specifications

What remains original
• original ARISTO / PUW 1464 automatic movement
• original crown
• original acrylic crystal (professionally restored and polished)
• original case architecture
• original applied hour markers, preserved and re-used
What was transformed
• the dial was fully reworked and rebuilt in a soft ivory / warm silver tone
• the original applied markers were retained and re-used
• natural Baltic amber fragments were individually selected and set as accents between the markers
• the case was intentionally not over-restored
The amber accents were created from naturally irregular Baltic amber fragments, meaning no two pieces are ever identical – and certainly not in this exact arrangement.
That makes this dial effectively impossible to duplicate.
Case finish
The case was deeply cleaned using a non-standard workshop method designed to preserve its full surface history rather than erase it.
Every scratch, abrasion and old scar was intentionally left visible, allowing the surface to develop a textured, almost topographic character.
Only then was the case re-gilded, without trying to smooth away its past.
The result is difficult to fully capture in photographs:
not polished perfection, but age, texture and light.
Movement condition
The original PUW 1464 automatic has been professionally serviced and tested.
• running evenly
• keeping good time
• power reserve approx. 35 hours
• day/date functioning correctly
Ready for many more years of use.
Important note
This is a custom one-off artistic transformation of a vintage ARISTO automatic.
It is not a factory-original dial and should be understood as a watchmaker-made unique piece, not a collector-purist restoration.
This watch does not pretend to be new.
It does not pretend to be untouched.
It does not pretend to be “perfectly restored”.
It has lived a life — and that is still visible.
What it has now is something else:
a second life, a stronger presence, and a character entirely its own.
A small piece of its story
This watch was found in the snow in Poland in December 1981, during curfew.
It had a broken spring bar, but it was still running..
I kept it for decades.
This is the form it finally grew into.
