This is a most likely a vintage W.E. Temlett zither banjo, typically manufactured in London around 1895–1920.It features a closed-back construction, which distinguishes it from open-back banjos and gives it a quieter, more mellow tone.The 5th string is tunneled through the neck and emerges near the 5th fret, a characteristic design element of zither banjos.These instruments were popular in England for playing classical and folk music in parlors during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
