Antique 19th Century Scottish Brown Serving Platter

Description

Antique 19th Century Scottish Brown Transferware Serving Platter - "Syria / Damascus" Pattern
Description:
Up for sale is a beautiful, rare piece of 19th-century British pottery history. This large oval serving platter features a stunning sepia brown and white transferware scene depicting an exotic Eastern/Mediterranean landscape with horse-drawn chariots, tents, and architectural spires, surrounded by an intricate floral and geometric border.
• Origin: Made in Scotland (attributed to David Methven & Sons or Robert Cochran & Co.).
• Era: Victorian / Aesthetic Movement, circa 1850s–1880s.
• Aesthetics: The detailing is incredibly fine, making it a spectacular display piece for an antique plate rack, kitchen dresser, or gallery wall.
Condition Note (Please Read Before Buying):
This antique platter is being sold As-Is for decorative display or repair only. As clearly shown in the photos, there is a large structural crack running down through the body, as well as some historical glaze chips along the rim edges. It is stable enough for gentle handling and vertical display but is not suitable for serving food or wet cleaning.
