Antique KPM Berlin Hand-Painted Cabinet Plate. Portrait of a Baroque Beauty, 19th Century

A superb antique KPM Berlin (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur) hand-painted cabinet plate dating to the late 19th century, featuring a beautifully executed portrait of an idealised young woman in the Flemish Baroque manner.

The portrait is painted entirely by hand with exceptional attention to detail, depicting a young beauty with auburn curls, pearl jewellery and a blue gown against a dark background. The broad claret border is richly decorated with burnished and raised gilt work, creating a striking display piece.

The reverse bears the underglaze blue KPM sceptre mark, together with an impressed “S.” factory mark and traditional kiln spur marks consistent with antique hard-paste porcelain.

Research suggests this belongs to the celebrated KPM tradition of finely painted “beauty” portraits, inspired by the great Flemish masters such as Rubens and Van Dyck. Comparable KPM portrait plaques and cabinet pieces remain highly sought after by collectors of European porcelain.
