Beautiful and Rare Masons Patent Ironstone Set of Six Straight Sided Coffee/Tea Cup and Saucer Duos in the Regency Pattern, Circa 1950

Description

I am continuing my effort to downsize as unfortunately we will have to move all our belongings into temporary storage due to builders carrying out major remediation works to our brand new home.

I’m trying to minimize the pain by reducing the amount of packing required to be done and reducing the amount of items going into storage.

For sale here is a beautiful (and rare) set of Masons pottery in their popular and collectable "Regency" pattern.

This is a lovely fresh floral pattern and less fussy than some of the Masons patterns. The transfer print is a bright blue with blue, yellow, green and red hand painted elements. This pattern was also sold under the name ‘Plantation Colonial’ for the US and Canadian markets.

Mason’s were a family of potters trading from circa 1800 to circa 1854, where they were taken over by Messrs. G L Ashworth & Bros in 1861 (they continued to use the Mason’s printed marks and also their molds and patterns). It became part of the Wedgwood group in 1978 and continued until production ceased in 1997.
Charles James Mason patented Ironstone in 1813, making the company a fortune. Ironstone was developed as a cheaper, mass-produced and more durable alternative to porcelain.

For sale here is a Beautiful and Rare set of Six Straight Sided Coffee Cup and Saucer Duos. All six cups are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or pattern loss, there may be just some minor clean age-related crazing. Five of the saucers are also in excellent vintage condition, but the sixth has a small chip to the underside as photographed. I have included for free, another regular shaped saucer, along with the chipped one, although the chip is not obvious from the front.

These cups are unusual and not the normal shaped cups that you regularly see in the regency pattern. They would be classed as a coffee cup but are larger than most coffee “cans” that only hold an espresso or Demi Tasse. These cups hold the same as a teacup and can be used for tea also.

The back stamps reads MASON’S “Regency” Made in ENGLAND, with a crown and registered trademark signs. The backstamps are a bit of a minefield, but the stamps on the cups are circa 1940+ and the saucers circa 1950+ (different shaped crowns, so they must have been produced around the change in stamps in 1950, I would think.)

Price is for a set of six Cup and Saucer Duos at €15 per Duo.

I'll have a few other Masons Regency items coming shortly as I clear the remaining items from my collection, and some items are already listed, including a vary rare large lidded soup tureen with underplate and soup ladle.

Check out my other items and more coming soon! Discounts possible for multiple purchases!
Post is always possible, at cost.
